Présentation

R. Sebastian Schachinger is interested in life. Within his
work, he offers a philosophical gaze on concepts such as time,
work, object-hood and the social constructs associated with
them. Through large-scale installations, sculptures, sound, or
performances, he explores tensions between objects, personal
memories, the body, machines and the various mechanisms and
relationships they engage with each other. Schachinger views
performances, often arising unrehearsed and in its course spon-
taneously, as a practice to learn about the world through physical
experiences – his body as a ready-made and container.

Parcours

R. Sebastian Schachinger, born in Freiburg im Breisgau
(DE), lives and works in Vienna (AT) and Basel (CH), graduated
with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from HGK Basel FHNW. His
recent solo and group exhibitions include City Salts, Birsfelden/
Basel (CH), Kunsthalle Basel, Basel (CH), Le Kunsthalle, Mul-
house (FR), Kunsthalle Palazzo, Liestal (CH), Kunsthaus Basel-
land, Muttenz/Basel (CH) and WAF Galerie, Wien (AT). In 2022
Schachinger was awarded the Swiss Art Awards/Kiefer Hablitzel
Göhner Prize. Since 2023 he runs the project space RUF in Vien-
na (AT).
