Présentation

Ishmat Habib vit et travaille entre Prague et Francfort. Il a étudié à l’Institut indonésien des arts de Yogyakarta (2017-2021), a passé un semestre à l’Académie des beaux-arts de Prague en 2021 dans le cadre d’un programme d’échange, et a obtenu son diplôme de Meisterschüler (2021-2023) à la Städelschule de Francfort-sur-le-Main, sous la direction du professeur Willem de Rooij.

Sa pratique de la peinture est basée sur la philosophie javanaise. L’artiste travaille avec la mémoire des lieux et l’histoire orale transmise de génération en génération. Sa pratique s’inspire des forces motrices et des êtres qui peuplent le paysage et des règles non écrites qui maintiennent l’équilibre entre le monde originel et le monde humain.

Conscient que ces relations et ces savoirs disparaissent rapidement, il s’appuie sur une narration intuitive et cherche à allégoriser.

Ishmat Habib lives and works between Prague and Frankfurt. He studied at the Indonesian Institute of Arts in Yogyakarta (2017-2021), spent a semester for an exchange programme in 2021 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, and graduated as a Meisterschüler (2021-2023) at the Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main, under the guidance of Professor Willem de Rooij.

His painting practice is based on the stories of Java philosophy, which is how Ishmat Habib grew up and continues to live. He works with the memory of places and oral history handed down from generation to generation. His practice is inspired by the driving forces and beings that inhabit the landscape and the unwritten rules that maintain the balance between the original world and the human world. Aware that these relationships and this knowledge are rapidly disappearing, he relies on an intuitive narrative and seeks to allegorise them.
